Why should I join the PTA?
The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help West Madison. But there are many more PTA advantages:
  • Get Connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.
  • Tap into a Network. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences.
  • Watch Yourself Grow. By volunteering with your PTA, you put your skills and hobbies to use for a noble cause - your child and all children in the community.
  • Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events.
Anyone can join the West Madison PTA: moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends. We encourage 100% membership among our teachers and parents so that the local PTA has a strong membership body. West Madison PTA membership also includes voting privileges on the year's budget, bylaws, and officers.

If I join the PTA, does that mean I have to attend all meetings and volunteer for stuff?
There's no expectation that any member attend or volunteer. We don't even take attendance or count volunteer hours!

General meetings offer a way to stay informed, network with other parents, and occasionally participate in school activities with your student. General meetings are usually held the second Monday of the month at 5:30pm, check the calendar for the current schedule.

Can you spare just a single hour this school year? Volunteering is a great way to enhance the school whether you can take on a project or just a single shift at an event. See the Get Involved page for more details.

Why does the PTA have a fundraiser?
The PTA is not funded by tax dollars; we raise money independently in order to fund extra programs and activities that benefit the students at West Madison. This includes character building, hands-on engineering and science programs, Book Fair, Holiday Shop, Spring Carnival, and extra classroom supplies and technology. We often fund special acquisition projects for the school, such as Chromebooks and a new playground.

As an independent organization, our budget is approved by members each year and we always welcome input on spending priorities so that we can best represent the goals of the membership base.
